Blyth was once a thriving coal exporting,  fishing port and, in WW2, a submarine base. Times have changed and it has come to rely on the import of Bauxite for the local Aluminium Smelter.
In 2003 it the quay was restored and coal is now imported from Eastern Europe to the converted Battleship Dock

Power Station

Once a major landmark in the area, Blyth coal-fired power station, at Cambois, on the Northumberland coast, reached the end of its working life in the 1990's.
It was demolished during 2002. Its landmark chimneys vanished on a bright Sunday morning in 2003
